Lightning McQueen laptop

March 6th, 2010 No comments

Ahhh, nothing quite like the sounds of a 3 year old and 16 month old fighting in the morning. Lightning McQueen laptop starts the brawl every time…. just throw it on the floor in between them and watch the fun ensue. Someone should probably break this up.

Keurig has made me a better person

July 21st, 2009 No comments

While I’m on the subject of morning fixes , let me also say that not only has the Keurig instant coffee maker I got for father’s day increased my caffeine dependency, it has made me a better person.

Best gift I ever got

If I had to feed a 3 year old + an 8 month old AND clean the coffee pot & filter, measure the grinds, etc before getting my fix, I’d almost certainly be beating both of these kids right now.

W/o instant coffee

Now where is the damn dog and why isn’t she eating all these cheerios James threw on the floor?

Daycare

June 6th, 2009 No comments

While I’m on here killing time, I’d like to point out that there are no bigger germ factories on the face of the earth than day care centers. My two kids have been “institutionalized” for a month or two now (and only part time 2 or 3 days a week at that) and both of them have brought home some different bug every week so far I think.

The ripoff prices they charge you to lock your kids in a broom closet for the day should at least include one of these for each kid:

Food for thought

June 24th, 2008 No comments

This is from an email someone forwarded me but is good food for thought… there may not be any one big city in the wake, but the damage is just as devestating or worse in the mid-west right now as it was in N’Orleans… the water is still rising in some spots and I can’t even find a link to a story about the mid-west flooding today on cnn.com:

“The questions below are so very true. The self reliance shown by people of the mid-west stands so far apart from the people in New Orleans that were in the similar situation!!

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem?

Asking where the FEMA truck(and trailers) are?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and bigscreen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a ‘vanilla’ Iowa, because that’s the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Also, there was/is zero looting. I have pretty much given up hope for the ‘victims’ that take disaster as opportunity to go steal themselves new shoes and home electronics. Welfare has reduced them to what they are today. Sad, very, very sad. Something to think about.”

Damn you Anheuser-Busch

September 26th, 2006 No comments

So I went to Buffalo this past weekend with my 3 brothers and a whole crew of other functioning alcoholics. To summarize the weekend: damn you Anheuser-Busch for making a product as fine as Bud Light. I was able to kill innumerable brain cells with it this weekend and bear witness to a littany of other unspeakable acts of drunken stupidity. Some of us spent the game passed out in the bleacher seats but most of us watched the Jets (of course) beat the Bills 28-20 as the Buffalosers manged to lose a game in which they had 475 total yards of offense.

Now some people will tell you that Bud products are “bad.. crappy beer”, etc. These people do not like beer, spend most of their free time at coffee houses (or worse places) and should stick to wine coolers or wine and cheese parties when they do decide to drink. Seriously, if you have any hair on your chest, you just cannot find a better product than Bud Light – good and good for you.

As for the loyal fans of the only team in NFL history to lose 4 straight Super Bowls, I will make 2 observations that pretty much speak for themselves:

  1. The main attraction of all Buffalosers tailgating parties involves throwing 3 or 4 inch steel washers through holes cut in plywood.
  2. The next most popuplar attraction is standing near the porta potty dropping Mentos candies into 2 liter bottles of soda to make “soda volcanos” which you can then run through.

Un friggin belieavable.

Hmmm….

September 15th, 2006 No comments

The Pope made a speech a few days ago pointing out that certain parts off Muslim teaching encourage violence.

Fanatics in Turkey, Pakistan and other pre-dominantly Muslim countries, in an apparent show of disagreement with this sentiment, reacted with violent protest.

Hmmmm……

Big doings in the kingdom…

July 26th, 2006 No comments

So what’s new?

  • I had a kid a few months ago. Ryan Christopher (shown above relaxing at home) is doing great… he’s healthy, more or less sleeps through the night (not that Daddy ever wakes up when he cries anyway) ever since 3 weeks and, all in all, is an awesome little guy who is the heir to King Sean’s throne. It’s hard to remember what life was like before having a kid – I suspect it’s the brain’s way of preventing you from sorely missing all the free time you used to have… but being a father is great and very worth it!

  • After 5 and 1/2 years, I left Sun Microsystems. I enjoyed my time at Sun but they are struggling big time and I got tired of token raises and waiting to get laid off so I started half heartedly looking around for a new job. In the process, I accidentally posted my resume on Monster or some such site… I honestly did NOT mean to do so because last time I did I instantly got dozens of calls from tech recruiters which was flattering but very annoying. Same thing happened this time… got about a half dozen calls from recruiters in a hour or so before realizing what I had done and taking the resume down. One recruiter promised a job at a “major sports firm”… recruiters are sometimes like car salesman so I figured it was something stupid like a pro kickball league but, feeling like a sucker, actually called her back. Good thing I did….
  • I started working for Major League Baseball Advanced Media 6/26/2006… each of the Major League Baseball team owners kicked in some pocket change (i.e. a few million bucks each) and started the company about six years ago. It (not surprisingly) runs mlb.com and the sites of every MLB team… but we also run many other sites including the site for Major League Soccer, Minor League Baseball and World Championship Sports Network, College Sports TV and others. They even handled the video streaming for the 2006 NCAA March Madness which set the record for concurrent internet video streaming. So I went from a 40,000 public company struggling to make money to a 400 person private company that, from what I can tell, is raking in the cash. It’s a refreshing change… and I get free baseball stuff! I’ve only been at MLB.com for a month, but so far it’s very cool.

Allright… that’s enough for now.

Blogs (short for web logs if you didn’t already know) are all the rage these days… everyone from the snot nosed kid next door to rich and powerful CEO’s of multi-billion dollar companies are writing them.

Personally, I kinda thought it was stupid to have a blog. And I still kinda do. But here you are reading my blog… so what gives?

Well, it’s half online journal for myself, half to make up for the lack of actual updates to my web site and half because I just love to hear myself talk (or type as the case may be).

So, from time to time, I’ll post blog updates here. You can even subscribe to an RSS feed and be notified when I do. And Lord knows you cannot live without reading my blog the second it’s updated!
